Wed May 26 12:38:34 1993 Brian Fox (bfox@oak.crseo.ucsb.edu) * endian.c: Fake out gcc 2.4 with two consectutive shifts. Mon Mar 22 14:53:04 1993 Brian Fox (bfox@tinker.crseo.ucsb.edu) * bultins/bind.def: We cannot use unwind_protect_pointer () on a FILE *. Some machines (e.g., DEC Alpha) cannot handle the alignment difficulties. Simply save and restore the variable instead. Sat Mar 20 10:48:33 1993 Brian Fox (bfox@eos.crseo.ucsb.edu) * subst.c (stupidly_hack_special_variables): Ad "TERMINFO" to the list of variables which cause sv_terminal () to be called. [ Chet Ramey sez: ] * This is a fix for the file descriptor leak bug reported recently on gnu.bash.bug. The problem is that there are `internal' redirections that must be undone even if the `exec' builtin throws away the redirection undo list. This adds a new list `exec_redirection_undo_list' and makes copies of those redirections that need to be undone even if an exec command succeeds. This list is then run at then end of execute_builtin_or_function. The list must be disposed of in execute_command_internal as well. execute_builtin_or_function was changed so that saved_undo_list is set to exec_redirection_undo_list if the builtin is exec_builtin, and the saved_undo_list is run unconditionally at the end of the function. A bug fix in here: I added an unwind protect to dispose of saved_undo_list in the case that the builtin or function is interrupted. There are a couple of other fixes here. If some redirections for a command fail, the undo list must be run to clean up. This required changes to execute_command_internal and execute_builtin_or_function (the two places an undo list is created). Sat Mar 20 10:48:33 1993 Brian Fox (bfox@eos.crseo.ucsb.edu) * jobs.c (delete_all_jobs): Only block the child and do processing if there are any job slots. * unwind_prot.c: Functions which would call another function to grvel the list of unwind protects now only call the other function if unwind_protect_list is non-empty. * execute_cmd.c (find_user_command_in_path): If an absolute pathname is given, and the caller only cares whether the file exists, and the file exists, return the path. * builtins/test.def: Document `-h' as the same as `-L'. Wed Mar 3 09:15:23 1993 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * alias.h, braces.c, expr.c, general.h, hash.h: #define NULL as a long zero to satisfy __alpha machines. * builtins/fc.def, builtins/getopts.def: Let the definition of NULL come from general.h, already included from shell.h. * jobs.c, nojobs.c: (Make remembering the tty state of the shell dependent on interactive_shell, not on interactive. Mon Feb 8 10:00:19 1993 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * general.c: Move definition of getwd () out of USG loop. * getcwd.c (getcwd) Fix typo; "pathbug" -> pathbuf; Add support for NeXT. * machines.h (NeXT) #undef HAVE_GETWD and HAVE_GETCWD. The NeXT's getwd () is buggy. Mon Nov 30 09:27:10 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * support/getcppsyms.c: Add linux and __linux__. * general.c (bcopy) Use HAVE_BCOPY define. * machines.h: (Linux (new machine desc), aix, risc6000) Declare HAVE_BCOPY in SYSDEP_CFLAGS. * subst.c (expand_word_internal) Expand variables within the expression found in $(()) arithmetic expansion (case `('). * subst.c (expand_word_internal) Free TEMP in `[' case just before going to add_number. Wed Oct 28 10:21:34 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * print_cmd.c: (Entire file): Change specific printing functions back to a single call to cprintf (). Make cprintf () a not so bright printf which only accepts %, c, s, and d format specifiers. Fri Oct 16 18:14:52 1992 Brian J. Fox (bfox@hydrogen) * general.c: The hppa running hpux_8 doesn't have getdtablesize (). * support/mksysdefs: Force HP-UX version and release checking to be robust in the face of changing output formats for "uname" on those systems. Wed Oct 14 11:33:03 1992 Brian J. Fox (bfox@helios) * print_cmd.c: (Entire file): Change occurences of "cprintf" to use specific functions for printing strings, characters, and integers. Printing of commands now cannot overflow a static buffer. * parse.y: (simple_list, list1) Use CMD_FORCE_SUBSHELL instead of CMD_WANT_SUBSHELL to indicate the difference between "( foo ) &" and "foo &". This only affects the appearance of "jobs" output. Thu Oct 8 00:37:54 1992 Brian J. Fox (bfox@helios) * support/fixdist: Bash script relocates a freshly unpacked distribution such that there is exactly one copy of each source file. * support/mklinks: Bash script clones a directory. Used by fixdist. * cpp-Makefile: Include support/fixdist, support/FAQ and support/mklinks in the distribution. Include lib/glob/doc/Makefile, and lib/tilde/doc/Makefile in the distribution. Include support/PORTING in the distribution. * jobs.h: (Posix Defines) Consolidate, make each new definition depend on the fact that it isn't already defined. Some systems define WIFSTOPPED, but not WIFEXITED. * config.h: Define PROCESS_SUBSTITUTION only is MKFIFO_MISSING is not defined. * machines.h: (alliant, NeXT) Add -DMKFIFO_MISSING to SYSDEP_CFLAGS. machines.h: (alliant) #undef HAVE_UNISTD_H. It has it, but it doesn't have fully supported job control under Posix. Bash compiles and runs out of the box with job control if this file is not included. * shell.c: (main): When Bash is executing a script, move the file descriptor containing the script to an arbitrarily high place (getdtablesize () -1) in the hopes that this will avoid colliding with descriptors explictly named within the script. For existing scripts, this will work, but for new scripts, we have no mechanism yet. We (The Posix Spec Group) discussed this at length with no solution accepted. * machines.h: (NeXT): Defines HAVE_RESOURCE in SYSDEP_CFLAGS. * machines.h: (Symmetry): Define HAVE_GETDTABLESIZE in SYSDEP_CFLAGS. * general.c (getdtablesize) Conditionalize on HAVE_GETDTABLESIZE, not on USG or HPUX. Mon Oct 5 18:41:40 1992 Brian J. Fox (bfox@helios) * builtins/kill.def (kill_builtin) Signal numbers cannot be eq to NSIG, as well as not being greater. Sat Oct 3 13:39:01 1992 Brian J. Fox (bfox@helios) * builtins/echo.def (echo_builtin): Do not default to System V behaviour on System V machines. Use one behaviour for all machines, which means that all machines can accept the `-E' option. * cpp-Makefile: GDB no longer needs -Bstatic in order to debug a compiled bash. Sat Sep 26 01:45:01 1992 Brian J. Fox (bfox@helios) * jobs.c (initialize_jobs): If the shell is not interactive, then set the controlling process group's PID to NO_PID. Wed Sep 16 18:18:46 1992 Brian J. Fox (bfox@helios) * builtins/common.c (remove_hashed_filename) Posix specifies transparency of filename hashing, so this new function implements the means to remove a single filename from the hash table. * execute_cmd.c (execute_subshell_builtin_or_function) When executing a builtin or a function in a subshell, set the SIGINT handler to Bash's handler, since make_child () resets it to the default. * builtins/bind.def (whole file) Wrap #if defined (READLINE) around the code for the builtin. * bashline.c: Define of BRACE_COMPLETION based on presence of BRACE_EXPANSION. * bashline.c (setup_ignore_patterns) Make sure that this_fignore is non-null before copying it to last_fignore. Make sure that last_fignore is NULL after free()ing it. * builtins/alias.c (whole file) Wrap #if defined (ALIAS) around the code producing sections of the file. * builtins/alias.c (single_quote_string) When a single quote is found in the string, supply a backslash escaped single-quote, and then a new single quote to continue quoting. This allows such strange strings to be re-read into Bash. Sun Aug 16 12:49:59 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * subst.c (command_substitute) Only close the pipe file descriptors if they are not stdin, stdout, or stderr. * newversion.c: #include before stdio.h. Sat Aug 8 09:14:47 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * set.def: Add defines to long documentation reflecting what is really available under different configurations. * builtins/mkbuiltins.c: When writing out long documentation strings, allow Cpp directives to be written verbatim. Fri Aug 7 12:07:15 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * cpp-Makefile: Split tilde source into lib/libtilde.a. Revamp of library building sections. Split history away from readline. Thu Jul 30 11:01:59 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * machines.h: The value for each instance of M_OS is now surrounded by double quotes. cpp-Makefile: Assignment of OS_NAME no longer adds double quotes to the value. Tue Jul 28 09:35:47 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * shell.c (termination_unwind_protect): Reset the shells process group and that of the terminal if we exit due to a fatal signal. * test.c: Use GID_T and UID_T defines to cast group and user id variables. This should only affect SunOS4, which has an int instead of a gid_t for the type, yet the functions return short. * execute_cmd.c (execute_case_command): Tilde expand candidates for the word being checked and for each pattern in the pattern list. Wed Jul 22 19:58:49 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * Changes to the following files cause the functions strchr () and strrchr () to be used instead of index () and rindex () throughout the Bash source. general.c: Remove definitions for index and rindex; add definitions for strchr and strrchr. bashline.c, execute_cmd.c, general.h, parse.y, subst.c, test.c, builtins/common.c, builtins/echo.def, builtins/fc.def: Minor changes consitisting of replacing calls to [r]index with calls to str[r]chr. Tue Jul 21 09:22:49 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * Changes to the following files implement the use of the define NO_READ_RESTART_ON_SIGNAL. This #define is on for OS's that do not restart read(2) when it is interrupted by a signal. Such systems have to use restarted reads for command substitution because the SIGCHLD that bash gets when the child started to run the command exits can interrupt a read from the command substitution pipe. general.h, general.c, subst.c, and parse.y. * make_cmd.c (make_here_document): Increase the value of line_number each line read for a here document. Mon Jul 20 10:53:40 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * variables.c: (initialize_shell_variables): Turn off exported property for the imported value of PPID. * builtins/set.def (unset_builtin): Make unsetting a readonly variable an error, as per Posix.2. Mon Jul 13 11:39:03 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * bashline.c: (initialize_readline) `%' doesn't need to appear in rl_special_prefixes. * builtiins/reserved.def: Clean up description of IF. * parse.y: #define command_token_position and assignment_acceptable whether we have aliases in this shell or not. * config.h: New option BRACE_EXPANSION controls inclusion of the curly brace expansion and completion code. * cpp-Makefile: Changes for checking BRACE_EXPANSION. * subst.c: Only call brace expansion code if BRACE_EXPANSION is defined. * builtins/set.def: Document `-i' option to set and to shell startup. Thu Jul 9 09:56:33 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * jobs.c (flush_child) Call maybe_set_sigchld_trap () instead of set_sigchld_trap (). trap.c (maybe_set_sigchld_trap) New function. If the command run as the result of a trap on SIGCHLD calls `trap' to install a different SIGCHLD handler, the new trap command will be overwritten when the old trap handler completes. The above changes set the SIGCHLD trap only if it is not already set after running the trap commands. * subst.c: (command_substitute) Do not turn off INTERACTIVE_SHELL for the spawned shell, just INTERACTIVE. * signames.c: (initialize_signames) Place signal names which can be aliases for more common signal names first. This allows (for example) SIGEMT to overwrite SIGGRANT. * braces.c: (brace_gobbler) Let brace expansion ignore escaped `,'s (BRACE_ARG_SEPARATORs) when expanding for the shell. Sat Jul 4 19:44:32 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * cpp-MAKEFILLE: Add $(RM) $@ for non-implicit compiles. * builtins/jobs.def: (jobs_builtin) `jobs' with a bad job spec returns EXECUTION_FAILURE. * builtins/times.def: Allow extraneous arguments for sh and ksh compatability. * getcwd.c: Allow the path to be longer than PATH_MAX be dynamically reallocating the buffer if neccessary. * excute_cmd.c (execute_while_or_until) Save the results of executing the while or until body and return that in the case that any commands were executed, instead of last_command_exit_value. Fri Jul 3 09:25:51 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * builtins/fg_bg.def: (fg_builtin, bg_builtin) Posix sez that `fg' and `bg' return failure when run with job control disabled. * builtins/setattr.def: Document `-n' option to "readonly". Clarify short documentation strings. "export" and "readonly" return an error if given -f with an argument that is not a function name. * parse.y: current_token_being_expanded and pending_token_being_expanded can finally be removed. They are now gone. * parse.y: (yylex) Save and restore the value of "_" (lastarg) during the execution of PROMPT_COMMAND. * builtins/common.c: (parse_and_execute) Use vfree () instead of free () in the call to add_unwind_protect (). * nojobs.c: New version of this file keeps track of the children we create in an array, similar to what is done for job control systems. * builtins/type.c: (type_builtin) `type' with no arguments now returns zero for /bin/sh compatability. * trap.c [many functions]; Change calls to "signal" to calls to "set_signal_handler". * execute_cmd.c: (execute_subshell_builtin_or_function) If the executing builtin does a longjmp () with EXITPROG, then use the value of last_command_exit_value as the exit value. Wed Jun 24 09:47:38 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * Not all systems define the variable "errno" in . But what is even more interesting, is that some systems #define there instead! For the files: subst.c, general.c, jobs.c, nojobs.c, error.c, getcwd.c, builtins/{bind,exec,fc,kill,source}.def, lib/readline/{readline,history}.c, and lib/glob/fnmatch.c I made the declaration include a check to see if the variable was already #defined. * machines.h, maxpath.h: Added spport for 386 box running BSDI. * subst.c: (unquoted_glob_pattern_p) New function is called instead of glob_pattern_p for hairily quoted shell strings. Sun Jun 14 11:19:35 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * parse.y: Removed rule for redirections preceding a shell_command_1, since that causes reduction errors. cpp-Makefile: Removed message which explained to ignore the reduction errors, since they now no longer exist. Fri May 22 21:03:15 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * machines.h (alliant) Merge new 2.2 entry with existing 2.1 entry. OS name for both is now "Concentrix" and Machine is "alliant". * print_cmd.c (print_group_command) Pretty print nested group commands inside of function definitions. * parse.y: (history) If the line is a continuation line, then only insert the newline, not a semicolon. Thu Apr 30 12:39:54 1992 Brian Fox (bfox@cubit) * builtins/cd.def (change_to_directory): Canonicalize the argument (NEWDIR) and use that in the chdir () call. * builtins/type.def (type_builtin): Do not look in PATH or in the hash table for programs which are supplied with absolute path information. Thu Apr 16 08:56:01 1992 Brian Fox (bfox at cubit) * bashline.c, alias.c, alias.h, builtins/alias.def: Rewrite of alias code to use hash tables. Changes to bashline.c and alias.def minimal, changes to alias.c extensive. * builtins/common.c (get_numeric_arg): Replace call to scanf () with inline code to read a decimal number. Wed Mar 18 15:07:46 1992 Brian Fox (bfox at localhost) * config.h: New define RESTRICTED_SHELL when defined allows the generated shell to become restricted if the -r flag is specified, or if the name of the shell is "rbash". * execute_cmd.c, shell.c, flags.c, flags.h, builtins/cd.def: Changes to enforce the `restricted' mode, all dependent on the cpp define RESTRICTED_SHELL and the variable "restricted". Thu Mar 12 13:20:04 1992 Brian Fox (bfox at localhost) * jobs.c: (set_sigchld_handler) New function hides details from callers. * builtins/common.c (remember_args) Always dispose_words (rest_of_args) before changing its value. Sun Feb 23 03:38:59 1992 Brian Fox (bfox at gnuwest.fsf.org) * parse.y, execute_cmd.c, subst.c: Many new functions make process substitution a reality. Define in config.h PROCESS_SUBSTITUTION. * getcwd.c: New version of this file from roland and djm. * builtins.h: New flag value for struct builtin "SPECIAL_BUILTIN". Currently unused, but Posix specifies a potential use. * execute_cmd.c (execute_command) If the first command in "cmd1 ; cmd2" is interrupted with SIGINT, then do not execute `cmd2'. * machines.h (AIXRT, RTAIX) Remove reduntant definition, leaving only AIXRT. * cpp-Makefile: (install) Allow the symbolic link command to have an error exit status. * jobs.c (map_over_jobs, wait_for_single_pid) Make sure that SIGCHLD is blocked during execution. * jobs.c (restore_sigint_handler, wait_sigint_handler) New functions called from wait_for () and flush_child () improve the way that Bash handles interrupts within shell scripts and while running the `wait' builtin. * jobs.c (set_signal_handler) New function encapsulates Posix .vs. Bsd signal handler setting. * jobs.c: Many functions. Use INVALID_SIGNAL_HANDLER for testing the status of old_sigint_handler. * general.c (canonicalize_pathname) New function beautifies pathnames. Mon Feb 17 17:50:56 1992 Brian Fox (bfox at gnuwest.fsf.org) * machines.h: (Alliant i860, and Delta SysV68) New entries. New variable LD_HAS_NO_DASH_L handles case of losing /bin/ld without the -L flag. Also changes to cpp-Makefile. Sat Feb 15 22:10:56 1992 Brian Fox (bfox at gnuwest.fsf.org) * lib/glob/glob.c (glob_filename) If we are compiling the globbing library for the shell, then call throw_to_top_level () if an interrupt was received. Fri Feb 14 04:34:25 1992 Brian Fox (bfox at gnuwest.fsf.org) * variables.c:(adjust_shell_level) Make sure that SHLVL exists before calling atoi () on the get_string_value () of it. * machines.h: Drastic cleanup. Moved all of the Sun machines into a single define. Rewrote HPUX, with support for HP-UX V8. Mon Feb 10 01:49:10 1992 Brian Fox (bfox at gnuwest.fsf.org) * shell.c (shell_initialize) Add a new function line_buffer_stream () which causes STREAM to use line buffered output, as opposed to character or block buffering. Call that function from shell_initialize (). * print_cmd.c (print_redirection_list) Only print trailing space if there are more redirections left to print. * execute_cmd.c (execute_simple_command) Make the redirection of stdin to /dev/null for systems running without job control last only for the duration of the current command. (i.e., avoid letting it stay around during loop execution.) Sat Feb 8 15:31:45 1992 Brian Fox (bfox at gnuwest.fsf.org) * variables.c (initialize_shell_variables) Set internal integer variables such as command_oriented_history based on the presence of their user-definable counterparts in the environment. Instead, test the first byte. * jobs.c(kill_pid) Kill the process pointed to by P, not the last one we looked at. * shell.c: Only source the .bashrc if this is not a login shell, even if we are not sourcing .bash_profile. Xenix's setvbuf () has 2 middle arguments reversed. Run the exit trap when the shell is dying from a terminating signal (like SIGINT). * general.c:(get_hostname) Change `uts' to `ut' to avoid conflict with Amdahl compiler. * execute_cmd.c:(execute_simple_command) changes to make this_shell_bultin always reflect the current command; i.e. NULL if not a builtin, otherwise, the address of the currently executing builtin. variables.c:(find_variable) Check temporary environment if current execution environment is a builtin or function. flags.h: Prevent multiple inclusion, add declarations for functions found in flags.c. Mon Jun 24 20:44:47 1991 Brian Fox (bfox at gnuwest.fsf.org) * execute_cmd.c: (do_redirections) Hack errors on variable names as redirectee's to display themselves correctly. This is for arithmetic and bad substitution errors. * builtins.c: (hash_builtin) use absolute_program () instead of absolute_pathname (). * cpp-Makefile: Numerous changes include using cpp defines for readline and termcap targets for those `make' programs which don't correctly handle variable expansion in the target postion, .distribution now depends on version.h, `make clean' now removes created support files. substantial reorganization. Pass $(RANLIB) to library building makes. * builtins.c (builtin_error) Only print this_command_name if it is non-null and non-empty. * execute_cmd.c (execute_command_internal) A command run in a subshell with `()' now runs trap 0 upon completion. Only let auto_resume resume stopped jobs. * execute_cmd.c: Set file descriptors to close on exec when executing builtin commands. Conditionalize traditional behaviour; BSD systems exec scripts with csh when the first line of the script is `#' by itself. This now only happens if the cpp define HAVE_CSH exists. * makeargs.sh: If the file /bin/csh exists, then define HAVE_CSH in sysdefs.h. * New define, DUP2_BROKEN determines whether the system's dup2 doesn't handle close-on-exec correctly. Add it to SYSDEP_CFLAGS in the machine description. This was done for all Sequents. * execute_cmd.c (find_user_command_in_path) Use absolute_program () instead of absolute_pathname (). * expr.c: Allowed any valid variable name. * fc.c: Error messages do not have "fc:" in them anymore. Make the first command in a pipeline block reading from a pipe until the last command is created. This solves all sync problems. New define "getpgid (pid)" gets around differences in getpgrp () calls on different systems. set_new_line_discipline () works on TERMIO systems without NTTYDISC. * jobs.h: HP/UX systems barf on WIF* macros in sys/wait.h. Use our definitions in jobs.h instead. * machines.h: Numerous changes. Compiler flags for MIPS. Improved Encore machines. * makeargs.sh: Better tests for whoami and hostname. * nojobs.c: Changes to allow compilation on MINIX and BSD without job control. * parse.y: Discard null input characters. This specifically allows shell builtins to get the value of variables in the local environment for this command. * parse.y: pre_process_line (). Don't do any preprocessing if history_exapnsion_inhibited is on. builtins.c: parse_and_execute (). Save and restore the value of history_expansion_inhibited, not of history_expansion. In this way, .bashrc files can set or clear this flag with "set +o". Thu Jan 18 19:52:02 1990 Brian Fox (bfox at sbphy.ucsb.edu) * builtins.c: All builtins use builtin_error () instead of report_error (). All builtins have a return value. get_numeric_value () no longer takes FOR_WHOM argument. The value is now taken from THIS_COMMAND_NAME. Ditto for no_args (). * builtins.c: new function builtin_error () is similar to report_error (), but can never exit the shell, and uses the value of this_command_name in reports. Fri Jan 5 11:12:31 1990 Brian Fox (bfox at sbphy.ucsb.edu) * variables.c: initialize_shell_variables (). Added new variable HOSTTYPE which contains the machine type that this shell is compiled on. Also affected Makefile for additional define and rule for variables.c. * parse.y: pre_process_line (). In the case of ALIAS not being defined, a non-malloced string could be returned. Fixed by calling savestring (line) in that case. * execute_cmd.c: do_redirections (), do_redirect (): Added noclobber variable. If set redirections are not allowed to overwrite existing files. Also affected subst.c: stupidly_hack_variables. Thu Jan 4 11:51:25 1990 Brian Fox (bfox at sbphy.ucsb.edu) * builtins.c: pushd_builtin (), popd_builtin (). If variable "pushd_silent" exists don't print out new directory after cd'ing. Allow pushd and popd to take "-NUM" args -- they count back from the end of the list. Wed Jan 3 11:42:30 1990 Brian Fox (bfox at sbphy.ucsb.edu) * Gave variables two cells; one for value, one for functions. This modifies a large number of files. The function cell of a variable is addressed with "function_cell (var)"; this can be a LHS. The value cell is addressed with "value_cell (var)". There is no more att_function; you can still check to see if the variable has a function value with function_p (var). Mon Sep 4 18:30:33 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * copy_command.c: copy_command (). Don't forget to copy the command redirections. Sun Sep 3 08:23:04 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * readline.c: update_display (). Fixed printing of initial character on line twice bug. Fri Sep 1 18:52:08 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * readline.c: rl_insert (). Optimized for large amounts of typeahead. Insert all insertable characters at once. * I update this too irregularly. Released 1.03. jobs.c: stop_pipeline (). If THE_PIPELINE is null, don't try to install it as a job. execute_command.c: execute_simple_command (). Fixed call to stop_pipeline () by adding required arguments. parse.y: yy_error (), new function report_syntax_error (). CASE case uses report_syntax_error (). shell.c: main (). If the input to the shell is a command file, then remember the name of the file in with_input_from_stream (). Tue Aug 8 18:11:54 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * general.c: strindex () now placed there. Static version is in readline.c. * execute_cmd.c: If the shell is to read a file as commands, and the file appears to contain non-ascii characters, then complain about it being a binary file. Sun Aug 6 13:07:41 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * unwind_prot.c: Added tag based unwind frames. begin_unwind_frame ("foo"); add_unwind_protect (free, data); add_unwind_protect (free, data); ... run_unwind_frame ("foo"); * readline.c: Added input buffer management, and event input. rl_event_hook, if non-zero, is the address of a function to call repeatadly while polling for input. rl_stuff_char (char) pushes CHAR onto input ring. rl_get_char (&char) (when returning non-zero) pops the front of the input ring, placing it into CHAR (an int). rl_gather_tyi () puts characters into input ring if available. * execute_cmd.c: execute_simple_command (): even when a function is being piped we need to set return_catch_flag. Sat Aug 5 08:32:05 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * variables.c: make_var_array (), initialize_shell_variables () Added exporting of functions. * read_builtin (): reads characters singly from stdin, allowing backslash-newline to pass. * test.c: use access () instead of opening files. * numerous files, parse_and_execute (), with_input_from... Added stream_name to contents of pushed and popped streams, and to functions that push and pop streams. yyerror () uses this to aid in reporting errors. Fri Aug 4 12:35:08 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * copy_cmd.c copy_redirect (): case of r_read_until falls through to copy the actual here-document. Wed Aug 2 11:47:50 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * builtins.c:cd_builtin (): if the shell variable "cdable_vars" exists, and the directory specified cannot be changed to, either first with CDPATH or directly, the the directory name is looked up in the list of shell variables. If it exists, and is a string, then that value is tried. * test.c: moved `!' operator to term () from expr () Tue Aug 1 16:03:32 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * execute_cmd.c, builtins.c: global variable return_catch_value now contains the value of `return' calls. * parse.y: current_readline_prompt gets NULL after it is freed. Sun Jul 16 07:51:46 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * test.c: Added -S to test for file being a socket. builtins.c: Added documentation for -S test. * execute_cmd.c: execute_case_command () The clause patterns are now expanded before being matched against. Tue Jul 11 05:30:58 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * parse.y:yy_readline_get () Fixed bug with readline returning EOF. * All files Changed #ifndef NOJOBS to #ifdef JOB_CONTROL. Sat Jul 8 05:02:39 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * parse.y New command type `Group' is for running commands in `{}'. This allows all of the commands to be piped at the same time. Wed Jun 28 16:51:42 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * New directory: LIB contains readline and history stuff, and is Make-able on its own. Also contains its own ChangeLog. * history.c: removed shell dependent stuff, made into module in readline library. Tue Jun 27 13:05:54 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * readline.c: removed shell dependent stuff. * New file: bashline.c contains all of the shell specific readline material in an attempt to begin using the readline stuff as a library. Mon Jun 26 13:35:16 1989 Brian Fox (bfox at aurel) * parse.y Fixed problem in read_token () which prevented '{' from being recognized after "c () {". Changed reserved_word_acceptable () to know about `{' as precursor to commands. * readline.c, jobs.c Make commands that do not complete sucessfully restore the tty state to whatever it was before the command was executed.
